#Hashtags

The twitter hashtags are starting to be used more as a joke than anything serious, so why not start using it in real life?
Instead of the old school air-quotes

Im going to try and star using air-hashtags

Social Media change?

Only a few days ago I found out that Facebook was going to release some shares to go public. I found out through this video and think its worth the watch.

But also a new social media website, Zurker has come about...
yes, it does sound a lot like the beginning of Zuckerberg and it is aimed at the audience that is unhappy with facebook. While Facebook is going public and the users generating all the content are getting nothing from it, Zurker plays itself as being owned by the users. It is trying to set itself aside from the Silicon Valley and users that share it and promote it receive vShares that might one day be worth something.
For now, it's an interesting concept and it will be fun to see how/if it grows.
If you want to check it out - http://www.zurker.co.uk/i-146058-xdhfjswbaz

Dual core phones as desktops

Gizmag recently released this story.
Phones can soon run Ubuntu and be used as fully functional desktops.
Phones have evolved much faster then other technologies, I for example and getting bored of my phone although I'v only had it for a year.
Because of this fast evolution, computer operating systems can soon be put on phones. The system that is being worked on by Canonical will make it possible for an Android to switch to Ubuntu when docked into a monitor connection while running the Linux kernel on both OS's.
The specifications for a phone possible of this are not too high either.
Let's hope a manufacturer begins making a phone for this, even if they dont pre install ubuntu it would be nice to play around with a phone/desktop.

Van Halen and the brown M&M's

An amazing video explaining why the fact that Van Halen stated that they wanted no brown M&M's backstage became so popular.

Awesome logic for the win.

Has Virgin Media gone too far?

Virgin Media in the UK has recently blocked access to thepiratbay.se, a torrent sharing website.
After an order from the High Court, internet providers are to block access to this site due to copy right infringement issuses. The pirat bay has been targeted just as Megaupload earlier this year. It seems that the activist in information sharing are being targeted by Hollywood. Kim Dotcom CEO of Megaupload and Peter Sunde, Co-founder of ThePiratBay are being targeted because of the massive amount of users they have been able to reach.
TV-Shows are being released on television programs in the US and can be online and viewed around the world within les than an hour, while the television programs in for example UK where no translating is needed dont air the show until a few months later.
Is it not just normal that people will try and get what they can the fastest way they can? The television programs and channels can air live football games around the world, all at the same time, and why cant the tv shows be on air faster?
This is entrainment that is usually being shared on such sites, but if it was News that was being held for this long from the public and then their way of accessing it was considered illegal, more people would stand up for their rights to have access to the information the fastest way possible.

"You should necessarily hide because you file share. Thats also a problem, because I dont want people to feel they they are criminals or anything, instead everyone should just unite and say this is the way we want to have it." - Peter Sunde on youtube.

How to get elected.

Tracking the elections at a Student Union, its strange to see who gets elected. Some candidates aim to get the support of people from their native country while others try to get votes on their ideas but the must successful is to rely on the laziness of the voters.
Candidates can only count on votes by their nationals if there is a majority of people in the international environment are of their native country.
By counting on votes by like minded people, the candidate has to reach every person that may have similar opinions and explain why some ideas are realistic and why some are not of concern, such as decisions that have been passed already and dont need to be worked on during their term. The difficulty with this is that every person will want to hear the changes that will most effect them. It takes time fot the candidate to campaign because of this and it leads to less people being aware of the ideas that are going to happen.
The most effective way of winning a student election seems to be counting on their laziness. Candidates can then count on people not knowing about the changes that are going to happen during their term and promote them as their own. With that many promises that the candidate will defiantly keep, there is then space for empty promises that noone will remember by the end of their term. If a student knows that there will be campus wide wifi installed during his term, he can then promis the voters campus wide wifi and something else (such as a student run store) and when only one of the promises is realized, the voters are still satisfied with the result. This strategy should also rely on people being too lazy to show up to debates or hastings, that way as long as they dont embarrass themselves to the point of becoming a youtube hit. If the voters dont show up to hear how unconfident and incomplete the ideas are, they will vote for the hope of the changes that were promised.

Count on the laziness of people and claim success over projects that you were not involved with and become a student union president.
